FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Washington, DC (January 11, 2023) – Kori Schake, director of foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, announced the launch of A New China Playbook, a project that will offer insight into US-China competition and how America can exploit the Chinese Communist Party’s failures. The project brings together three leading experts in the field: AEI Senior Fellows Dan Blumenthal, Zack Cooper, and Derek Scissors.

“As the Chinese government expands the reach of its repressive surveillance state both at home and abroad, American policy needs a clear playbook that incorporates mutually reinforcing diplomatic, economic, informational and military means to defend human dignity, diminish China’s ability to weaponize economic interdependence, and make the world a freer and safer place.” said Kori Schake, Senior Fellow and Director of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies.

The three experts spearheading the project bring an unparalleled blend of expertise to the project. Derek Scissors is the leading expert in US-China economic research, and his insight is a crucial component in any analysis China’s future. Zack Cooper has unrivaled expertise in deciphering America’s relationships with Indo-Pacific partners, who will be crucial in confronting the CCP’s aggression. Finally, Dan Blumenthal offers pointed insight into the decision-making of the CCP, and how to counter their revisionist objectives.

“China’s revisionist ambitions are only growing more aggressive. It is time for a renewed focus on the threat posed by the CCP to both Asia and the world.” said AEI’s Dan Blumenthal.

The experts behind A New China Playbook will produce research, op-eds, and other products focused on countering the CCP’s coercive practices and stabilizing the military balance in Asia. An events series will also be held at AEI, where leading policymakers can offer their thoughts on the future of this issue in discussion with AEI’s scholars.
