FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Washington, DC (May 31, 2022) — American Enterprise Institute (AEI) President Robert Doar announced today that AEI Senior Fellow and Director of Domestic Policy Studies Ryan Streeter has been appointed to the State Farm James Q. Wilson Chair, effective immediately.

Ryan Streeter has served as special assistant to the president for domestic policy in the White House under George W. Bush. He previously served in a variety of roles in the nonprofit and public sectors, including as deputy chief of staff for policy in the Office of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and policy adviser to Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. Dr. Streeter joined AEI in 2017 after being the executive director of the Center for Politics and Governance at the University of Texas at Austin. In his role as director of Domestic Policy Studies at AEI, he oversees research in education, technology, housing, poverty studies, workforce development, energy and the environment, agriculture, and public opinion.

AEI established the State Farm James Q. Wilson Chair in 2014, naming it after the late preeminent social scientist and longtime AEI trustee and scholar James Q. Wilson. The chair is made possible through a $3 million gift from State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and supports a scholar dedicated to empirical research that contributes to a healthy culture and a robust system of free enterprise.

“Ryan is a talented scholar who has accurately described the role of dynamism in creating a strong economy and society that can increase opportunity for all Americans,” said Mr. Doar. “I look forward to his continued important contributions to policy debates as both a scholar and the leader of a talented group of researchers on AEI’s Domestic Policy Studies team.”

“I am honored to hold the State Farm James Q. Wilson Chair,” Dr. Streeter said. “Professor Wilson’s work influenced me greatly early in my career, and his contributions to social science and public policy continue to be an inspiration to me and my colleagues to this day. I will do my best to uphold his legacy through my work at AEI.”
