FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Washington, DC — American Enterprise Institute (AEI) President Robert Doar and Yuval Levin, director of Social, Cultural, and Constitutional Studies at AEI, are delighted to congratulate AEI Senior Fellow Karlyn Bowman on being awarded the 2020 Warren J. Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research. Issued by the board of directors of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at Cornell University, the award “recognizes Bowman’s contributions to analyzing trends in US public opinion to understand the evolution of American politics and the public’s changing views on some of the most important issues facing the nation.”

Named after Warren Mitofsky, inventor of the exit poll, the award is one of the most prestigious honors in the public opinion field. The virtual ceremony will be held on November 12, 2020.

The Roper Center announcement recognizes Karlyn Bowman for her analyses of American public opinion using polling data from a variety of sources on different subjects. Topics include the economy, taxes, the state of workers in the US, the American dream, free trade, and women’s attitudes. She is also interested in the history of polling and polling questions and the challenges pollsters face as response rates fall and survey modes change.

Said Robert Doar, “We are particularly proud that Karlyn is the first think tank scholar to receive this award. The entire AEI community is delighted to see her being recognized for her outstanding work.”

Added Yuval Levin, “This award is a testament to Karlyn and her work, which offers a model of the value that think tank research can provide at the intersection of the academy and the policy world.”
