Workforce Development

AEI’s workforce development or vocation, career, and work scholars examine the intersection of work, upward mobility, and workforce transformation. Our scholarship spans the social nature of human work, questions of vocational calling, work-based social capital formation, economic mobility, federally-funded workforce programs, automation, artificial intelligence, remote work, and hidden workers (including veterans, justice-involved population, opportunity youth, and persons with disabilities). Through this work, we seek to inform policymakers, business leaders, employers, and employees on how our nation can better weather the present workforce difficulties and build a strong and adaptable workforce for the future.
